a new book: Keeping the twilight
 

two forthcoming events: Whittington Press Open Day and the 2020 Oxford Fine Press Book Fair

Back in 2010 we published Winter Light, a sequence of atmospheric texts by Peter Davidson that accompanied water-colours by Hugh Buchanan. It was only recently that I bought a copy of Peter's much praised The idea of North. As someone who prefers the cool of the north to the heat of the south and autumn to summer, I should have read it earlier.

I very much enjoyed the closing words and felt they stood very well on their own. I'll be printing them in Fournier italic on a vintage hand-made paper, a single 16pp section sewn into a soft cover of a heavy mottled paper from the Larroque mill. The topic and mood immediately made me think of Paul Kershaw for an illustration - one of his subtle and luminous engravings of the Isle of Skye is on the wall above where I set type. Paul will be engraving an image which we plan to tip in.

It will be a small edition and there will be more details later in the year.

Bigger and better than ever

As ever we hope for good weather at this unmissable event. We shall have a table there with ephemera, posters, some books, and some printing stuff for sale.

Date now announced and a new venue in Oxford

The Fair is now repositioned in the calendar, in early Spring. In 2020 it's moving to a new venue, the splendid Examination Schools, right in the heart of Oxford. There will be the usual mix of stands for presses, trade suppliers, and associated organisations, plus lectures and prizes, and the customary Dinner on the Saturday evening.

The Fair is managed by the PBFA with the assistance of the FPBA. If you are interested in having a stand there contact the Fair Manager Henry Gott.
